the creation entertainment difference

Unlike so many other genre conventions, Creation Entertainment has a strict company policy not to "oversell" our conventions. In other words, every patron, no matter what bracket of ticket they purchase, will have a seat in the main auditorium where the major guests appear and events take place. Nothing upsets us more than hearing about other conventions that sell tickets to patrons and then those very same patrons have to wait on additional lines inside the facility to get into (or sometimes not!) the main theatre. An important Creation Entertainment difference we want you to know about!

The Creation difference extends to our 40 years experience in running fan conventions. In the last few years we've seen promoter after promoter fail taking hard earned ticket money down with them. Inexperienced promoters, often first-timers, use celebrity images and names to get ticket money which they use to hopefully pay their expenses. When that fails they've already gone through "your" ticket money and they collapse leaving no recourse for ticket holders. They say "buyer beware" but this has happened in Twilight, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly fandom (to name just a few) and we really feel for those great fans who have lost their ticket money and upset travel plans.

**All Convention tickets have a $7.75 shipping/handling fee charged per ticket ordered. This applies to all online, phone, fax and mail orders. Note: Our ticketing office (Leticia) direct e-mail address has been changed to: creatickets@creationent.com

***Attention Attendees: Do not purchase Ticketmaster Tickets from scalpers or anyone trying to offer tickets as you arrive at our convention locations. Each ticket is checked for authenticity at the door and we can not let you in if your ticket is counterfeit (which has happened recently). Please buy your tickets only from Creation or, if we are using them, Ticketmaster! Thanks, we appreciate your support!

ALL GUESTS are contracted to appear and all convention contracts specify that appearances are tentative and subject to change as film and television work demands take precedence as can a personal conflict. Our events will take place whether a specific guest cancels or not (we always try to book replacements) and therefore we can not issue admission ticket or ticket package refunds if a particular guest does not fulfill their appearance contract. Of course we will always refund separately purchased photo ops and autograph tickets for a guest if they cancel.

PHOTO TAKING POLICY AT THIS CONVENTION
We know that taking photos makes the convention even more fun and we thought it would be a good idea to share our photo taking policies for you before you arrive at the convention so you can prepare. In the auditorium, photo taking is encouraged, but only from your seat. It is unfair to run up to the stage and block the view of others who have paid for reserved seats in front of you. Even if there are empty seats, patrons must sit in the seats they paid for to be fair to everyone. Due to fire marshall regulations everyone must be seated during performances. Please also be courteous to your neighbors when taking pictures. Photo taking is not allowed during autographing sessions nor during the photo ops. Only those people who have autograph tickets may come up to get autographs. At the Gold Exclusive Parties and Breakfast: photo taking is encouraged when the guests arrive (but only from your seats). After a sufficient time for all to get their photos we ask that your cameras be placed down so the celebrities can enjoy their time at the two food functions. Thank you for understanding the need to have these few rules so everyone is safe and has fun.

The vast majority of our guest celebrities take questions from the audience during their on-stage time. Therefore it is incumbent upon those that ask questions to make them ones that allow our mutual shared time with the celebrities to be enjoyable, interesting and entertaining for all (including the guest). Asking for hugs, telling stars we love them (we all do, that's why we're here), giving gifts, getting into long personal stories, or worse, is not acceptable for this format and, in fact, is quite self-centered when you are in essence "representing" all of fandom to a celebrity. Join us in trying to make this convention the best entertainment for everyone!

In the event of convention cancellations or date changes Creation Entertainment is not responsible for patrons' costs involving travel or hotel accommodations or any other non convention ticket expenses.

Advance ticket sales are generally turned off early to mid-week of the week of the events. Tickets, if they are not sold out, are sold at the convention of course.

Creation celebrates our many years of Convention Memories

celebrating star trek 40th anniversary
When we ran The Official STAR WARS Convention we brought in Gene Roddenberry as a surprise and this moment in time was a true highlight. Gene was a great mentor of ours and he is always in our thoughts, especially when we gather for our Official STAR TREK Conventions.

celebrating star trek 40th anniversary
LOST was one of the great TV series of all-time and we were proud to be an official licensee for the show. Here three of the stars, Ian Somerhalder, Evangeline Lilly and Naveen Andrews, grace our stages in a Creation Convention appearance.

celebrating star trek 40th anniversary
Two of our most popular celebrity guests from the Stargate franchise making their only Creation appearance together on stage: Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping! We love following their careers post Stargate and look forward to enjoying their work for years to come!

A VERY special moment in Creation History

BILL SHATNER & LEONARD NIMOY toasting the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek on the exact day, 4 decades later, that the original series began its TV run! Taken in Chicago at Creation's Salute to Star Trek's 40th! Thanks, Bill and Leonard for being such a big part of Creation Entertainment! Who would have thought that as kids that watched classic Trek, that one day we'd be working with these show biz legends!

History is made again at Creation when LEONARD NIMOY passes the ceremonial "#1 Vulcan" tee-shirt to the new Mr. Spock ZACHARY QUINTO. It all happened in front of the audience at Grand Slam XVI. Creation Conventions: it is ALL about making wonderful memories like this!

Jack Nicholson
Superstar Legend Jack Nicholson made the "Creation" scene, a definite ultra-cool moment in our 40 plus year history!

Patrick Macnee
Growing up watching THE AVENGERS was a particular joy so when Patrick Macnee joined the Creation line-up of stars it was a joyous occasion for us and his many fans!

Star Trek Captains
It's never happened before or after but it was another of our proudest moments: having four STAR TREK Captains share the stage. Let's hope we can pull it off again some day and add a few more?

Star Trek Captains
Long-time Creation friend (and early fan attendee turned superstar producer) DEAN DEVLIN brought along friends Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer to one of our shows. Dean is currently behind one of TV's greatest shows LEVERAGE!

Star Trek Captains
The impeccable Ricardo Montalban created Star Trek's most popular villian as Khan but in person he truly was one of a kind and his two appearances for us were definitely amongst the most memorable! He is sorely missed by all Trekkers and was indeed a Hollywood classic himself!

Star Trek Captains
Gracious and supportive to us as ever William Shatner made sure first time Creation guest star Joan Collins (in her only convention appearance) was comfortable on stage, reunited decades after their ultra-popular classic Trek appearance together!

Star Trek Captains
As promised, a seat for all! Here's a scene of the amazing theatre we used for years for our Las Vegas Star Trek Convention. At Creation shows: no waiting and worrying about seeing the stars!

Star Trek Captains
Pretty Cool we'd say to have welcomed the ultra talented Elijah Wood as Creation promoted several Official LORD OF THE RINGS events. We can't wait to do it all again for the new films!

SATURDAY NIGHT: GALA CELEBRATION: We are very proud to present the incredible song stylings of James Darren in full concert with his band! Mr. Darren is a film actor, TV star, singer, and director who was born in Philadelphia. A chance introduction to the legendary producer/talent executive, Joyce Selznick, led to Darren's signing a seven year contract with Columbia Pictures. During his Columbia years, Darren made 19 films including playing Private Spyros Pappadimos in the big-budget The Guns of Navarone in 1961. In the popular Gidget movie series Darren played rich-kid surfer, Moondoggie solidifying his "teen idol" status as one of the country's biggest stars in the 1960's. In Gidget, Darren sang two songs: the title tune and There's No Such Thing As the Next Best Thing To Love. Almost without intending to, he became a recording star. In the early 60's his hits included Goodbye Cruel World, which became number one in the US, as well as Angel Face, Conscience, and Her Royal Majesty - every one of which made the Top Ten List.

Darren continued to make films and in 1966 starred in The Time Tunnel, his first TV series. When the show ended, Darren decided to concentrate on his singing. He teamed with comedian Buddy Hackett for what would become a twelve-year partnership touring the country.

In 1983, Darren was offered the role of Jim Corrigan on the ABC-TV series T.J. Hooker. He directed the final episode of T.J. Hooker which led to multiple TV directing jobs including Hunter, Nowhere Man, The A-Team, Hardball, and Police Story.

Darren was rediscovered by a whole new generation of fans due to his appearances in the seventh and final season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Vic Fontaine, a holographic swinging 60's Vegas lounge singer. He is currently touring the country, once-again singing to adoring fans and we're thrilled to have him provide a Vegas style concert for all of us LIVE on the convention's Saturday Night.

Mr. Darren's SATURDAY NIGHT GALA CELEBRATION Concert is included on a complimentary basis for all Gold Package Holders, Captain's Chair Patrons and Preferred Weekend folks (keep your same great seats). For others concert tickets are priced as follows:

David Gerrold Authorship Workshops

David Gerrold has been one of science fiction’s most notable writers for more than four decades. He’s written episodes of Star Trek, Star Trek Animated, Babylon 5, Land Of The Lost, Twilight Zone, Sliders, The Real Ghostbusters, Tales From The Darkside, and Star Trek Phase II. He’s published more than fifty books, including The Martian Child, The Man Who Folded Himself, The Voyage Of The Star Wolf, Jumping Off The Planet, and The War Against The Chtorr. He won the Hugo and Nebula awards for The Martian Child, an autobiographical tale of his son’s adoption. John Cusack and Amanda Peet starred in the movie version.

Authorship means Taking Charge of Your Story

The workshops are presented as an interactive seminar, a candid give-and-take discussion about the heart and soul and nuts and bolts of creating a compelling experience for the reader. Whether it’s a short story, a novel, or a screenplay, the principles of effective storytelling are universal.

Your passion is the engine for your writing, but great stories come not only from great passion, but genuine commitment to getting from page one to page last. These workshops are about getting under the hood and working on the underlying mechanics of plot and character.

SATURDAY DAVID GERROLD AUTHORSHIP BEGINNERS WORKSHOP, Session One: Story Structure

Plot is about what your characters do.

What is a story? This session is a profound examination of the nature of plot and structure as the skeleton on which all else is built. What is the relationship between the protagonist and the problem? Understanding both the physical and emotional nature of the problem unravels the essential structure of a story. After you complete this session, you will see stories in a whole new way. Your own storytelling will have a new drive and purpose.

Limited Seating: $100

SUNDAY DAVID GERROLD ADVANCED WORKSHOP, Session Two: Characterization

Characterization is about who your characters are.

How do you bring a character to life? What animates the people in a story, making them real and believable? This session reveals character as a function of a person’s emotional landscape. How does a person react to events? And why? Understanding the expression of human emotions will transform the quality of your writing. After you complete this session, you will see people in a whole new way and the people in your stories will be real and alive.

Limited Seating: $100

Nevermore

Jeffrey Combs as Edgar Allen Poe Our mandate for Vegas 2011 is to provide as much unbelievably great theatrical extras as possible and fan favorite Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Enterprise star JEFFREY COMBS (Weyoun, Brunt, Commander Shran) has created a one-man show that has received critical and box office acclaim across the nation. We are very proud to present our good friend and super-talented actor Jeffrey Combs in NEVERMORE.... AN EVENING WITH EDGAR ALLAN POE.

Set in 1848, this one-man play is loosely based on real events and follows Poe on a cross-country speaking tour fraught with strange occurances that signal Poe's descent into madness. It is a show that LA WEEKLY says, "GO... a gorgeous rendition of a tragic clown whose heart has been cleaved open by loss and regret"

NEVERMORE will be presented in our main theatre on a complimentary basis for ALL in attendance: how about that for a special attraction that you are going to LOVE! We can't wait to see it again!

Star Trek World Record Attempt

WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT: MOST STAR TREK COSTUMES IN ONE PLACE, BE PART OF HISTORY!

guiness world recordUPDATE MAY 6, 2011: UPDATE:The folks at the European convention FEDCON 2011 have just broken the record with an impressive 691 attendees in costume! Congratulations to them and now we need your help to recapture the crown: make your plans to be in costume on Saturday of Creation's Official STAR TREK Convention in Las Vegas at The Rio Suites! With our pre-sales running more than twice last year at this time we should hopefully be able to crack the new record but we need YOUR assistance!

Last year attendees at the Creation Entertainment Official STAR TREK Convention garnered the world's record by having 543 costumed Trekkers show up for the attempt to win the Guinness Book of World Records of most people in Star Trek costumes in one place at one time.

The count-down to the required number to beat (507) was tense and nerve-racking but the outcome was one to celebrate as one by one more costumed fans poured into the reception room to cheers and applause. It was, truly, a highlight of the convention and just tons of fun!

Our record, however, was short lived as it was apparently beaten at Dragoncon in Atlanta one month later (with 571) so our hat is off to them but now the battle is on as we're going for the gold once again in 2011. This time we are setting our phasers on serious as we're doing the count mid-day Saturday (instead of early morning).

UPDATE AUGUST 6: It is taking place at 4:15 pm Saturday afternoon in our secondary theatre so get your costumes and make-up ready and be part of history as Las Vegas recaptures the crown!

TrekMovie.com

FAN BASED PANELS:

We are very happy to welcome Anthony Pascale of www.trekmovie.com to host one panel each day in our secondary theatre that will cover various topics of interest concerning the Star Trek universe with particular emphasis on the 2009 movie and its upcoming sequel. STAR TREK & SCI-FI NO MINUMUM BID AUCTIONS

Our secondary theatre is the home for our auctions and we invite all to be on hand for the fast paced action as we have at least one no minimum auction a day! And, along with Trek and sci-fi goodies, we'll also have some VERY rare autographs from Hollywood legends that many of us grew up loving, signatures you just never see for sale!

Real Life Science

REAL LIFE SCIENCE PANELS INSPIRED BY STAR TREK!

Inge HeyerLecturer Inge Heyer was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. She completed her secondary education there, after which she accepted a scholarship to attend Tenri University in Tenri, Japan. Following a life-long dream she studied martial arts and the Japanese language, as well as travelled extensively in this fascinating country. After this two-year academic "detour" she decided to follow her interest in astronomy (fuelled by watching way too much Star Trek in high school), and came to the US to pursue an undergraduate degree at Smith College in Massachusetts.

From 1992 to 2005 Inge was a senior data analyst at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, working on images obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide-Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) as well as the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). Space Telescope has a very active educational and public outreach program, in which Inge participated as a volunteer.

In March of 2006 Inge moved back to Hawaii to lead the outreach efforts for the Joint Astronomy Centre in Hilo. She visited many Big Island schools and community groups to talk about the exciting astronomy work being done on Mauna Kea. While there are no fan clubs or conventions on the Big Island, something fannish happens at `Imiloa around Halloween every year...

Early in 2011 Inge moved back to the US mainland. She is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Science Education with an emphasis on astronomy.

And in case you were wondering how the Hubble images got into episodes of Star Trek, you're looking at the trouble-maker who instigated this...

A Journey Through The Universe with the Hubble Space Telescope with Inge Heyer
The Hubble Space Telescope has been observing the wonders of the Universe for over 20 years. Embark on a journey to discover what's out there, how astronomical objects form and evolve, and how everything is connected. here did it all come from and where might it be going? This presentation will touch on a little bit of every area of astronomy, so come on by and enjoy the ride!

Alien Worlds, Real and Imagined with Inge Heyer
With new and more sensitive technology it has finally become possibly to search for planets around other stars. Since the age of science fiction people have imagined what other worlds might look like, now we can at least infer some of their characteristics. It won't be long until we will be able to take pictures. What are these worlds like? Can we compare them to our planets? And if there should be life on these worlds, how might it perceive the Universe? We will go on a journey, both fanciful and very real, to see what we have found in our search for alien worlds.

Ronald Held: Private Researcher on "The Nature of Reality"
In this presentation, Ronald will briefly cover the physical concepts behind parallel universes referenced in several Star Trek series, ending with a speculative concept. Dr. Held holds a Ph.D from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute whose research interests have been inspired by Star Trek.

David Gerrold's Star Trek Phase II

David Gerrold presents his Star Trek New Voyages episode "Blood and Fire". This story was written and directed by David.

"Blood and Fire" the fourth episode completed by Star Trek: New Voyages, and the first produced under the Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II moniker, "Blood and Fire" was written by Carlos Pedraza and David Gerrold, based on an original TNG script by David Gerrold.

The horrific story finds a battle damaged Enterprise caught between an incurable contagion that threatens to overrun the galaxy, the pull of a dying star, and Klingons poised to attack. Like all of the best Star Trek episodes, "Blood and Fire" finds the Enterprise crew facing their own human fears and failings as they have to weigh the costs and decide how much personal risk to take in order to save the people around them.

Gerrold wrote the story of contagion as a metaphor for the AIDS pandemic and the episode is dedicated to the gifted Star Trek alumni the world has lost to the disease: William Ware Theiss, Mike Minor and Merritt Butrick. It was also Gerrold's intention to challenge the apathy of the public regarding the small sacrifice, yet far reaching power, of blood donations. Based on an original TNG script that was shelved because of the mention of a gay crewman aboard the Enterprise, "Blood and Fire" for Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II honors Gene Roddenberry's vision of a non-judgmental future with the inclusion of a gay couple as part of the principle action of the story.

David Gerrold directed the episode which features guest stars Denise Crosby ("Tasha Yar" from TNG), Bill Blair and Evan Fowler; and reintroduces the character of Captain Kirk's nephew, Peter, played by Bobby Rice. David will discuss the episode with the audience following its screening.

Morgan Gendel's Journey to the Inner Light

Morgan Gendel Morgan Gendel's Journey to the "Inner Light"

TV and film writer Morgan Gendel, who won a coveted Hugo Award for the Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Inner Light," tells a lively tale of his outsider's journey into the TNG world. From his unexpected story inspiration through the long process of getting it approved, Gendel offers new insights into the making of this fan-favorite episode about Picard's alternate but all-too-real life as a husband, father and repository for a dead civilization's memories. Learn all about the pitches that failed, his early version of the Kataan Flute and the now-familiar characters who populated the writers room. Scene-by-scene commentary plus all about working with William Shatner (TekWar) and Stan Lee (MTV's Spider-Man).

Morgan will be autographing copies of his original Writer's Draft of "The Inner Light" and selling copies of the Kataan Flute based on his concept from the episode's pitch sessions. We are also planning a special screening of "Inner Light" at the convention in conjunction with Mr. Gendel's appearance.

From Idea to Editor in 14 Days with Michael DeMeritt

Michael DeMeritt has run this event only at literary cons in the past. It explains the craft of turning a script into a shooting schedule, a shooting schedule into a call sheet, and the steps required to go from that first concept to a shot and in-the-can one hour episode in only 14 working days. It is a little more for the technically curious, not a training class, but not a straight up "lets have some fun" seminar - it is more detailed. It has been a hit with people who have an interest in how things work, writers, actors, and especially anyone with even a touch of a producer in them. Date to be announced for our Secondary Program Room.

WELCOME TO EVERYONE!
Thanks for being with us! We really appreciate your visit and we want to make sure you have the absolute best time! With that in mind, a few rules to keep everyone safe:

2) PHOTO OPS are done on a first come/first taken basis but the line moves VERY FAST once it gets going.
3) Please have your items for signature out and ready during autograph sessions. Generally, because of the crowd size, there are no personalizations.
4) Our volunteers are here to help you and we thank them for doing so. However, if you have an issue with ANYONE or ANYTHING please let us know during the convention so we can solve the problem. We can't help out if you don't tell us!
5) Please sit ONLY in the seat you paid for.
6) At the request of our guests, ABSOLUTELY no video or audiotaping PLEASE!
7) Please turn cell phones off and kindly refrain from talking when a speaker or event is on stage.
8) If you ask a question of our guests, please make sure it is a good well thought out question, not about yourself but about the performer. Please no asking for hugs, autographs, photos!
OKAY, THAT'S IT: HAVE FUN! And, we LOVE to hear feedback: write to adam@creationent.com or gary@creationent.com
