CONVENTION SEATING & THE CREATION ENTERTAINMENT DIFFERENCE:
Unlike so many other genre conventions, Creation Entertainment has a strict company policy not to "oversell" our conventions. In other words, every patron, no matter what bracket of ticket they purchase, will have a seat in the main auditorium where the major guests appear and events take place. Nothing upsets us more than hearing about other conventions that sell tickets to patrons and then those very same patrons have to wait on additional lines inside the facility to get into (or sometimes not!) the main theatre. An important Creation Entertainment difference we want you to know about! |

COMES TO THE NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY AREA!
 |
 |
| Photos by Steven L. Sears |
ELF: THE LORD OF THE RINGS East Coast Convention journeys to the New York/New Jersey area for the very first time and we're rolling out the red carpet for you....
Authorized by New Line Cinema, this official gathering is produced by Creation Entertainment in association with TheOneRing.net. This gathering follows wonderful previous LOTR events held twice in Pasadena, California (The One Ring Celebration) and once in Orlando, Florida (ELF). We know that you will LOVE the time you spend with us, we're gonna give you memories to last a lifetime! The event will feature all the things fans have come to expect at our LOTR weekends: guests, scholar/artist/craft lectures and demonstrations, contests, autographs, photo ops, PARTIES, music, vendors, fan films and music videos, and surprises!
Note: ELF 2006 is meant to be a somewhat smaller and more intimate gathering than the "big" Pasadena Convention. Therefore we ask that you make plans early and purchase tickets before they sell out (as they have at previous events).

SPECIAL GUEST STARS

Sean Astin |

Billy Boyd |

John Noble |

Daniel Reeve |

Emerald Rose |
SEAN ASTIN
(Sam) is one of Hollywood's most prolific and popular stars. The son
of show business legends Patty Duke and John Astin, Sean first gained fame in
popular movies including THE GOONIES, TOY SOLDIERS and RUDY. More recently,
of course, came The LOTR Trilogy, and great turns in 50 FIRST DATES, the hit
television series "24" and the brand new film CLICK. Sean is always working on
something cool, but he also makes time for his legions of fans! We're thrilled to
welcome him aboard as a special guest at ELF!
DANIEL REEVE
Daniel Reeve is a freelance artist from New Zealand. He is most well known for the calligraphy and cartography on the film trilogy of The Lord of the Rings, but has also worked on Van Helsing, King Kong, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Dead Letters (not yet released). This work also extends to the merchandise side of films, where, for example, Daniel has just completed a set of illustrations for a Pirates of the Carribbean game.

BILLY BOYD

JOHN NOBLE
King Denethor in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
EMERALD ROSE
Emerald Rose is a four-man Celtic-theme folk rock band with a rich, original
sound drawing from diverse influences, from Jethro Tull to the Chieftains. Blending
chorus vocals, pennywhistle, world percussion and driving guitars and bass, their
music ranges from traditional jigs and reels to original folk rock and pop numbers.
They have been captivating audiences with their fusion of Celtic tradition, rock,
pop, jazz, and humor. Original songwriting carry the audience from ancient Celtic
lands to celestial realms. Many of the band's musical themes draw from Celtic
myth and legend, but the style is modern, upbeat and accessible.

SEAN ASTIN

EMERALD ROSE (Saturday Night Performance)

BILLY BOYD (Billy is also appearing at the Sunday breakfast) |
July 18, 2006: John Rhys Davies has advised us that he is unable to appear at the convention unfortunately. John Noble will be filling Friday's special guest slot. We look forward to welcoming JRD at a future convention.
June 27, 2006: Re: Elijah's cancellation of his appearance due to film work: We tentatively are planning a special video of Elijah addressing the convention: should be very cool! Everyone who ordered a specific Elijah Wood photo op or autograph ticket will be contacted directly via e-mail within the next few days with your options. We appreciate your patience and thanks for understanding! |
The vast majority of our guest celebrities take questions from the audience during their on-stage time. Therefore it is incumbent upon those that ask questions to make them ones that allow our mutual shared time with the celebrities to be enjoyable, interesting and entertaining for all (including the guest). Asking for hugs, telling stars we love them (we all do, that's why we're here), giving gifts (you can do this at photo ops), getting into long personal stories, or worse, is not acceptable for this format and, in fact, is quite self-centered when you are in essence "representing" all of fandom to a celebrity. Join us in trying to make this convention the best entertainment for everyone!
ART AND SCHOLAR GUESTS

Colleen Doran |

Doug Adams |

Michael Drout |

Laura Cooper |

Lynnette Porter |
Colleen Doran: Popular fantasy illustrator. Colleen's delightful wit, easy knowledge of LOTR, and
sublime artwork have long made her a fan favorite. She
will participate in panels and share her insights
on her work,.
Doug Adams: When Doug last joined us in Florida last
year, he was still working with Howard Shore on the
Fellowship of the Ring - The Complete Recordings. It
is available now, and if you own it, you will be able
to see Doug's work in the accompanying booklet. Doug
will give a talk about this recording and the work
going on now for the Two Towers box set, plus answer
questions.
Michael Drout: Michael is joining us for the first
time, and if you give his Vita a look, you'll see why
we are so excited to have him come aboard.
http://michaeldrout.com/ Michael teaches at Wheaton
College in Mass. in the English Department and
currently holds that school's prestigious 'William and
Elsie Prentice Professorship' for outstanding
teaching.
Laura Cooper: Laura was an instant success at ELF
last year, and again at ORC earlier this year. Whether
you've sat in one of her Elvish Writing classes
before, or are a rank beginner, there will be
something for everyone. Laura truly enjoys sharing her
love of Tolkien's written languages, and will strive
to help everyone learn to write this elegant script.
If you really want to get into these lessons, bring a
caligraphy pen, but if you don't have one, no worries,
you can still practice and learn with a standard pen.
Lynnette Porter: Lynnette joins us at ORC this year, and you may recognize her name from articles for the Lost Fan Club. She teaches humanities courses at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL, and is the author of Unlocking the Meaning of Lost: An Unauthorized Guide and Unsung Heroes of The Lord of the Rings: From the Page to the Screen. Currently she’s researching more information about LotR in preparation for another book. |

LOTR DISCUSSION PANELS
Here's a list of some of the panels planned during the weekend!
Lynnette Porter -- Heroic Hobbits, from Book to Film to Stage
The four hobbits of the Fellowship became heroes
eventually recognized by not only other races in
Middle-Earth, but also among their friends and
families back in the Shire. Although the four shared
many experiences before, during, and after the War of
the Ring, they each achieved heroic stature in unique
ways. Frodo’s, Sam’s, Merry’s, and Pippin’s
development into heroes begin with Tolkien’s
masterwork but also include recent interpretations of
these characters in Peter Jackson’s cinematic
adaptation and the currently running Toronto
theatrical presentation. Professor Porter discusses
how Tolkien presented these hobbits as heroes and how
later adaptations have turned these beloved characters
into heroes for our time. (60 minutes)
Colleen Doran -- The Illustration Business
How to get into the business of illustration, tips, advice, goals and benchmarks for the aspiring artist. (30 min)
Colleen Doran— The Art of Illustration
Drawing based on existing visual imagery vs. drawing from written descriptions vs. drawing from your own imagination. The use of models, existing video, photos, and archival research. (30 min)
Michael Drout -- "From Beowulf to Middle-earth: Why Tolkien's Scholarship Matters."
The two sides of J. R. R. Tolkien's life were not separate at all. His literary scholarship on medieval poems like Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight was intimately connected to his invention of Middle-earth. In this interactive presentation Professor Drout shows how an understanding of Tolkien's "day job" as an Oxford professor can illuminate his imaginative creations. (60 min)
Michael Drout -- "The Returns of Kings: From King Alfred to Aragorn"
What makes a good king? This question has had many answers over the centuries. What made a good king in the year 750 might make a very dangerous king in the year 1954 -- or 2003. In this interactive presentation Professor Drout discusses the leadership of King Hrothgar, Beowulf, King Oswald, King Alfred and two Aragorns -- Aragorn of the books, and Aragorn as played by Viggo Mortenson. The differences between these kings show how Tolkien's--and our own--concepts of kingship have evolved over time, even from 1954 to the present. (45 min)
Laura Cooper -- Tengwar I: Understanding the Alphabet
After a brief historical introduction, Laura will walk you through each consonant, vowel, carrier and variation. She will also supply a course primer. (75 min)
Laura Cooper -- Tengwar II: Understanding and developing sentences
First, a brief review of the day before, and then a full immersion into writing Tengwar using another course primer supplied by Laura. (60 min)
Laura Cooper -- Dwarf Runes I
Much less complicated than Tengwar, Runes are easily applicable to the Latin alphabet. In one single class, Laura will take you through the dwarf alphabet as well as how to write in it. Dwarf primer will be distributed. (45 min)
FIRST COME FIRST SERVE ON PRIMERS.
THERE WILL BE A LIMITED SUPPLY AVAILABLE.
Doug Adams -- Themes in Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings Scores
Two Oscars and millions in DVD sales later, people are still clamoring for more music and more information about the magical scores Howard Shore created for The Lord of the Rings movies. Join us for an exploration of the major and minor themes in these stirring musical works. There will be a brief Q&A to recap the FOTR box set that was released during the holidays, and then Doug will dive right into the ongoing work for the upcoming TTT box set. (75 min) |
IS THIS A KISSING BOOK?
Audience participation skits...
Join fellow LOTR fans in an interactive skit called
"Is This a Kissing Book?". The concept is easy, groups of fans will perform The
Lord of the Rings as told with quotes from The
Princess Bride. We'll split this up by books,
performing about 15 minutes each day. This will allow
a different group of people to perform each day. The
scripts are already written, you just have to say the
lines and listen to the audience laugh! We'll select a
cast at the beginning of each day and set up a little
practice time, with the readings to take place later
on in the day! |
DANIEL REEVE was a great guest at ORC 2006 and we're thrilled he is coming to ELF. One of the coolest items offered in the vendors room was collectibles created by Daniel. Look for more information on what he is bringing to ELF coming here soon! |
THE DORK OF THE RINGS FINAL PREVIEW!

We will also be screening the winning Dork fan film by the talented teenaged filmmaker team of sisters Ashlee & Rachel Scott who have been a huge hit with their films at LOTR conventions.
