CONVENTION SEATING & THE CREATION ENTERTAINMENT DIFFERENCE:
Unlike so many other genre conventions, Creation Entertainment has a strict company policy not to "oversell" our conventions. In other words, every patron, no matter what bracket of ticket they purchase, will have a seat in the main auditorium where the major guests appear and events take place. Nothing upsets us more than hearing about other conventions that sell tickets to patrons and then those very same patrons have to wait on additional lines inside the facility to get into (or sometimes not!) the main theatre. An important Creation Entertainment difference we want you to know about! |

THE ONE RING CELEBRATION 2006 was indeed a wondrous weekend of fun for fans who arrived from around the globe. Our guests were fantastic! Special shout-outs to our 2006 special guests ELIJAH WOOD, SEAN ASTIN, BILLY BOYD, MIRANDA OTTO, JOHN NOBLE, and DANIEL REEVE.
There were parties, music, scholars, costumes and art, lectures, contests, screenings of Ringers, fan films, and for the first time trilogy bloopers courtesy of Peter Jackson and New Line! There were thousands of autographs and photo opportunities: none rushed so fans could meet their favorite stars! It certainly was three days to remember and the reviews from fans and guests alike were supremely positive! We can't wait to do it again in 2007!
Journey with us as THE ONE RING CELEBRATION moves to a new location in 2007: the gorgeous Burbank Airport MARRIOTT, site of many of our most famous conventions! The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to the Burbank (Bob Hope) Airport, features a newly renovated convention center which we occupy fully, wonderful sleeping rooms, a hopping bar and fine restaurant, Starbucks coffee in the lobby, and a warm and friendly staff used to fans! (After all we now run four other big fan conventions here!). Burbank itself is convenient to all of Southern California's sites and attractions!

DOUG ADAMS Doug Adams is a Chicago-based musician / writer with
roots in both classical
and contemporary music, and is considered one of the
leading advocates for film music as a serious contribution to Twentieth and
Twenty-First Century music.
For the past decade Adams has worked alongside
composers such as Howard
Shore (The Lord of the Rings), Elmer Bernstein (The
Magnificent Seven),
Danny Elfman (Edward
Scissorhands), Thomas Newman (The
Shawshank Redemption), Elliot Goldenthal (Interview
With the Vampire),
Quincy Jones (In the Heat of the Night), Don Davis (The
Matrix), and many others.
Adams is currently completing the book, The Music of
the Lord of the Rings
Films, the official guide to Howard Shore's 12-hour
musical score for Peter
Jackson's film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel,
which will be released
in late 2007. Of the project, Howard Shore states, "I
have been reading Mr.
Adams' articles and essays on film music for years.
His writing on the
subject is intelligent, accessible and insightful. His
work is tremendously
respected within the film community and he is the
perfect author for this
book."
Adams keeps a busy schedule as a performing musician,
a writer, a composer /
arranger (having worked extensively in the worlds of
concert and theater
music) and a public speaker. Recent appearances
include Robert DeNiro's
Tribeca Film Festival and performances of Howard
Shore's The Lord of the
Rings: A Symphony in Six Movements, including
pre-concert lectures at
Chicago's Auditorium Theater and the Cleveland
Symphony.

Come join a special screening of the award-winning documentary RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS where the film's director & writers will be on hand for a special LIVE running commentary. It's like a "Director's Commentary" you would find on a DVD -- but this is live, uncensored, in real time with the film! Enjoy ribald stories of mischief and globe-trotting mayhem as Carlene Cordova & Cliff Broadway reveal secrets of the little fan movie that could! (100-120 min)
JUDY GRIVICH is an expert costumer and will be doing one costuming panel on armor and another general costuming panel for the various races of Middle Earth.
JUDY GRIVICH - Making Armor in Your Kitchen
Have you ever wanted to create costumes out of resin
plastics and fiberglass, but feel intimidated because
you don't have a workshop with every tool known to
man? Do professional plastics catalogues full of
techno-speak bewilder you? This class will cover how
to create your own armor out of resin, thermoplastics,
and fiberglass in your kitchen with a few simple tools
and supplies from Home Depot and the internet. We will
cover moldmaking, resin casting, how to build your own
vacuform table, vacuforming, and fiberglassing. (60
min)
JUDY GRIVICH - Lord of the Rings Costuming
This panel will cover the basics of making and wearing
costumes from Lord of the Rings. We will introduce you
to basics such as patterns, fabric choices, and
design, as well as tips and tricks for a fun
convention experience. (60 min)
GREG WRIGHT is the author of Tolkien in Perspective (VMI, 2003) and Peter Jackson in Perspective (HJ Books, 2004). Writer in Residence at Puget Sound Christian College in Everett, Washington, Greg has reviewed films for a number of websites, including Past the Popcorn and Hollywood Jesus. For the latter, he wrote and edited a vast archive of articles and interviews related to Peter Jackson’s Rings films. He is an internationally-noted lecturer on Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings.
GREG WRIGHT - Why We Should Care About the Children of
Hurin
This April will mark the publishing of the first
entirely new narrative work from J.R.R. Tolkien since
The Return of the King. Sure, it’s pieced together
from stories in The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales,
and The History of Middle-earth; but those were just
fragments, and the academic tone of those manuscript
analyses often got in the way of the literature. In
this talk, Greg Wright gives an overview of this tale
of Turin Turambar, explains the controversy about it
being published under Christopher Tolkien’s name, and
delves into the control that the Tolkien Estate has
over Tolkien’s manuscripts. (1 hr)
GREG WRIGHT - The Hobbit: More Than a Fuzzy Children’s
Tale
Many critics are worried about the prospect of Peter
Jackson turning J.R.R. Tolkien’s children’s lit
classic into another dark and violent exploration of
Middle-earth. Are the critics’ fears justified? To
some extent. But in this talk, Greg Wright expands on
the thesis of his commentary for TheOneRing.net: that,
especially for cinematic fans of Middle-earth, The
Hobbit is more about learning to live with the dark
corners of Middle-earth than it is about waxing
nostalgic for the goodness and light of The Shire.
From that perspective, Peter Jackson is the right man
for the job. (1 hr)
GREG WRIGHT - The Scouring of the Shire: What We (and
Jackson) Missed in Peter Jackson’s Films. In this reprisal of the lecture that he delivered at
Notre Dame University’s Center for Ethics and Culture,
Greg Wright analyzes in detail the significance of the
denouement of Tolkien’s tale—and explains why that
vision is wholly incompatible with Peter Jackson’s
view of Middle-earth. (1 hr)
Solo or Group Panel:
Greg Wright and Cliff Broadway (and maybe others) -
Untold Third-Age Tales We’d Like to Hear.
Scuttlebutt has it that New Line Cinema intends to
make two films out of The Hobbit, and that the second
film will include “new” storylines that will connect
it to Peter Jackson’s LoTR films. Is this a good idea
at all? If it is, what storylines would you like the
screenwriters to consider for inclusion? Join what
will likely be a lively, entertaining, and maddening
discussion! (1 hr)
ASHLEE & RACHEL SCOTT and CARLENE CORDOVA - Fan-Filmmaking 101
Have you been seeing fan films online or at
conventions for years now and wondered how to go about
making them? Do you have ambitions to move from the
Fan Filmmaking field into a more professional aspect
of the industry? Come listen to some stories on how
our attending filmmakers got started, what equipment
they use or recommend, where they get their ideas from
and how they talk all their friends into helping them
out. (45 min)
"Tolkien Animated!" (MAIN AUDITORIUM EVENT)
Participants: Carlene Cordova & Cliff Broadway
When Ink & Paint mixes with Bilbo & Smaug, the results
are bright and animated! Join our high-spirited
discussion on a favorite subject: how animated
versions of Tolkien’s books have given us delight (and
sometimes shame) over the years. Weighing in are
Carlene Cordova and Cliff Broadway, co-creators of the hit pop
docu RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS. Why are fans so
polarized by Ralph
Bakshi? What would Pixar or Miyazaki do if they got
hold of “The
Hobbit?” Tantalizing thoughts! (1 hr)
"The Game's the Thing"
Participants: Cliff Broadway & Mike Urban
From the cherished and dusty pages of TORN's
cornerstone blog GREEN BOOKS, join both Ostadan (Mike
Urban) & Quickbeam (Cliff Broadway) as your hosts to
the world of Tolkien-inspired games. Dice,
cards, tokens & yellow plastic rings are all you need
to enjoy a
hobbit’s holiday. Many clever game designs have been
produced over the
years -- running the gamut from Board Games to Trading
Cards to X-Box.
Bring a copy of your favorite game -- we’ll play! (1

All guests and events are tentative and subject to change. All guests have the right to cancel their appearance if film or television work will not allow them to make the convention.
|
The vast majority of our guest celebrities take questions from the audience during their on-stage time. Therefore it is incumbent upon those that ask questions to make them ones that allow our mutual shared time with the celebrities to be enjoyable, interesting and entertaining for all (including the guest). Asking for hugs, telling stars we love them (we all do, that's why we're here), giving gifts (you can do this at photo ops), getting into long personal stories, or worse, is not acceptable for this format and, in fact, is quite self-centered when you are in essence "representing" all of fandom to a celebrity. Join us in trying to make this convention the best entertainment for everyone!

| THE LORD OF THE RINGS: BEHIND THE SCENES
Documentary by Costa Botes
(109 minute version will be shown that went out with the last limited edition 3 film boxed set)
Imagine if you, a fan, had been allowed to wander about the filmset - all the filmsets - as "The Lord of the Rings" was being filmed. For several years, you were able to watch people working on any task related to the films, ask them any questions about what they were doing, even to linger in doorways and listen to Peter Jackson or Richard Taylor plan what kind of movies they intended to make and discuss the best way to achieve that.
Well, none of us is ever going to have that opportunity. But Costa Botes did, and he distilled the best of his five years of observation.
The wonderful thing about about this documentary is that clearly people trusted Costa Botes and became so used to him that they almost forgot he was there - he and his crew seemed to be part of the furniture of the set, able to candidly observe åwhat went on around them. The result is that you see people laughing, swearing, and working through disasters and triumphs. The whole thing leaves you in awe at the achievement of every last one of them. |
BROBDINGNAGIAN BARDS
The Brobdingnagian Bards (pronounced brAHb'ding-näg-EE-en) hail from Austin, Texas. They take traditional Irish and Scottish folk songs, mix it up with Lord of the Rings music to create a unique brand of Celtic Filk.
And when they say "unique", believe it! How many bands do YOU know that play autoharp, recorder, and mandolin... while wearing KILTS?!
The Bards (or if you're from Chicago "Da Bards!") were voted the #1 BEST PERFORMING NOVELTY BAND in the 2004-5 Austin Music Awards. They are the 'Godfathers of Celtic MP3s'. Over FIVE MILLION MP3s have been downloaded by their fans online. Over a million MP3s were from one song, "Tolkien (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)". They continue to give away over a dozen free Celtic MP3s from their website at www.thebards.net
In July, they released a NEW CD-BROBDINGNAGIAN FAIRY TALES. This is the eighth album from The Bards, and it features many of their hit songs inspired by contemporary Sci Fi culture from "Star Wars" to "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer", "The Last Unicorn" to "Schoolhouse Rock". |
THE HINDI SISTERS DANCE ACTS
WHITE AND NERDY: Ride 'em Dirty? How about gettin' down with Pippin and Frodo in 'White and Nerdy'!
TOO SEXY: Hairy feet, short stature, curly locks? Are these hobbits too sexy for you? Be there to decide! |
MIDDLE EARTH IDOLS
M.A.R.S. Productions presents Middle Earth Idols, a film parody of American Idol featuring Lord of the Rings characters, with celebrity guest judges Kiran Shah (LOTR), Daniel Reeve (LOTR), Dean Haglund (X-Files), Grant Wilson (Ghost Hunters) and more! Special musical performance by Emerald Rose!
Who will be the next Middle Earth Idol?
This presentation will be two 45 minute segments. |
