the creation entertainment difference

Unlike so many other genre conventions, Creation Entertainment has a strict company policy not to "oversell" our conventions. In other words, every patron, no matter what bracket of ticket they purchase, will have a seat in the main auditorium where the major guests appear and events take place. Nothing upsets us more than hearing about other conventions that sell tickets to patrons and then those very same patrons have to wait on additional lines inside the facility to get into (or sometimes not!) the main theatre. An important Creation Entertainment difference we want you to know about!

The Creation difference extends to our 40 years experience in running fan conventions. In the last few years we've seen promoter after promoter fail taking hard earned ticket money down with them. Inexperienced promoters, often first-timers, use celebrity images and names to get ticket money which they use to hopefully pay their expenses. When that fails they've already gone through "your" ticket money and they collapse leaving no recourse for ticket holders. They say "buyer beware" but this has happened in Twilight, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly fandom (to name just a few) and we really feel for those great fans who have lost their ticket money and upset travel plans.

**All Convention tickets have a $7.25 shipping/handling fee charged per ticket ordered. This applies to all online, phone, fax and mail orders. Note: Our ticketing office (Leticia) direct e-mail address has been changed to: creatickets@creationent.com

***Attention Attendees: Do not purchase Ticketmaster Tickets from scalpers or anyone trying to offer tickets as you arrive at our convention locations. Each ticket is checked for authenticity at the door and we can not let you in if your ticket is counterfeit (which has happened recently). Please buy your tickets only from Creation or, if we are using them, Ticketmaster! Thanks, we appreciate your support!

Wow! The 2009 Official STAR TREK Convention is now one for the history books, and indeed history was made! It just had to be the best Star Trek Convention ever, with an astoundingly huge and excited crowd celebrating the enduring legacy of Gene Roddenberry. Over 15,000 fans from all over the galaxy joined in a non-stop four days of fun highlighted by the on-stage appearances, partying, autographing and photo ops with 70 great Trek celebrities. Add in a giant vendors room, auctions, incredible musical and comedy performances by Star Trek celebrities, costume and trivia contests, two stellar parties at the top of The Stratosphere Hotel, and tons of cool surprises: it was a time truly to be treasured forever. We appreciate the continued support of our long-time attendees and welcome the tremendous turn-out of first timers: glorious proof that STAR TREK is BACK, LIVING LARGE once again! Step aside all those other genre franchises: there is ONLY ONE tradition before all others and only one that offers a positive future for mankind!

las vegas hiltonOur location, The Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, is one of the most storied of all vacation resorts. Opening in 1969 as the world's largest hotel, Barbara Streisand was the first night performer. Immediately after her engagement Elvis Presley performed for 58 consecutive sold out shows, breaking all Vegas attendance records. Elvis continued to play the famed showroom at The Hilton throughout his career living in the penthouse suite on the 30th floor when in the house. In 1978 Leon Spinks defeated Muhammad Ali for the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship at the hotel. In 1986 the hotel added a Race and Sports Book area which remains the city's largest. The hotel was also home of the greatly missed Star Trek: The Experience for ten years as well as serving as the Las Vegas place to see acts as diverse as Reba McEntire, Barry Manilow, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Liberace. Continued renovations find the hotel looking great and offering an amazing user-friendly venue for our convention. Enjoy your stay at The Las Vegas Hilton Hotel! We are offering UNBELIEVABLE overnight room rates for those with the convention. CLICK HERE FOR HOTEL INFO

July 29: Tiny Ron, due to a medical emergency, is unable to attend. Those with his autograph and photo op tickets can use them as cash for other tickets at the event or can return them to our office for a refund. Our address is Creation, 217 South Kenwood, Glendale, Ca. 91205 Attention: Ed

July 29: Robert Beltran has advised us today that he is unable to attend due to filming. Same policy on tickets as above. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

July 15, 2010: Alice Krige is unable to fulfill her contract to appear at the convention because of a film shoot that she cannot be released from. Those with separate Alice Krige autograph tickets or photo op tickets can use those as "cash" at the convention for other tickets. If you prefer a refund for these seperate autograph or photo op tickets please send them back to our office, Creation, 217 South Kenwood, Glendale, CA 91205

July 12, 2010: Samantha Eggar is unable to attend the convention due to medical reasons. Those that bought her autograph ticket and/or photo op can use those tickets as "cash" at the convention, or you can return to us via mail for a refund.

ALL GUESTS are contracted to appear and all convention contracts specify that appearances are tentative and subject to change as film and television work demands take precedence as can a personal conflict. Our events will take place whether a specific guest cancels or not (we always try to book replacements) and therefore we can not issue admission ticket or ticket package refunds if a particular guest does not fulfill their appearance contract. Of course we will always refund separately purchased photo ops and autograph tickets for a guest if they cancel.

The vast majority of our guest celebrities take questions from the audience during their on-stage time. Therefore it is incumbent upon those that ask questions to make them ones that allow our mutual shared time with the celebrities to be enjoyable, interesting and entertaining for all (including the guest). Asking for hugs, telling stars we love them (we all do, that's why we're here), giving gifts, getting into long personal stories, or worse, is not acceptable for this format and, in fact, is quite self-centered when you are in essence "representing" all of fandom to a celebrity. Join us in trying to make this convention the best entertainment for everyone!

Make sure to be on our STAR TREK / SCI-FI e-mail newsletter list to get announcements about STAR TREK / SCI-FI events!

WORKSHOP WITH DAVID GERROLD:
"THE TROUBLE WITH SCRIBBLES"

Saturday 9am-11am

It is our great pleasure to present this special workshop on Saturday of the convention (not conflicting with any major on-stage appearances). This is a limited attendance event. Here's the breakdown of what will be taught.

david gerroldAuthorship – Taking Charge of Your Story
David Gerrold has been one of science fiction’s most notable writers for more than four decades. He’s written episodes of Star Trek, Star Trek Animated, Babylon 5, Land Of The Lost, Twilight Zone, Sliders, The Real Ghostbusters, Tales >From The Darkside, and Star Trek Phase II. He’s published more than fifty books, includingThe Martian Child, The Man Who Folded Himself, The Voyage Of The Star Wolf, Jumping Off The Planet, and The War Against The Chtorr. He won the Hugo and Nebula awards for The Martian Child, an autobiographical tale of his son’s adoption. John Cusack and Amanda Peet starred in the movie version.

In this fast-paced seminar, Gerrold will reveal storytelling as an experiential process. Starting with the fundamental question, ‘What is a story?’ the workshop proceeds to examine the nature of plot and structure as the skeleton on which all else is built. What is the relationship between the protagonist and the problem? Understanding both the physical and emotional nature of the problem unravels the difficulties of structure.
The workshop then examines the nature of character. How do you bring a character to life? What animates the people in a story, making them real and believable to the reader or viewer? The workshop reveals character as a function of a character’s emotional state. Understanding this simple relationship will transform the quality of your writing.

Finally, the pieces of plot and character are brought together to unravel the mysteries of the necessary transformation that must occur for a story to have a satisfying climax. A story is about the most important event that occurs in the hero’s life. It is the tale of how he stopped being this person and became that person. Understanding the mechanics of this will allow you to create emotionally powerful transformations and stories that move, touch, and inspire audiences.

HOW STAR TREK INVENTED THE FUTURE

david gerroldA discussion with writer David Gerrold

Friday

In the sixties, there were no flip phones, no CDs or DVDs, no memory sticks, no portable recording devices, not even sliding doors. Today, we take those things for granted — but all of those items were first seen on Star Trek and some of them were even inspired by Star Trek. Other science fiction stories have predicted the Internet, personal computers, and flying cars. Okay, we still don’t have flying cars.

JON POVILL on STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE

jon povillSaturday

Jon, the associate producer of the movie, will be speaking about his work on the history making first full-length feature film, working with Gene Roddenberry, Robert Wise and the reunited crew. After leaving the Star Trek Universe, Jon contributed to other genre productions including Sliders and Total Recall and is currently working on a project that should be of great interest to Trek fans. Don't miss this entertaining presentation on Saturday of the convention.
